PT1000 - IEC/SANS Compliant LV Assembly

Due to varying industry standards and uncertainty in which direction the industry would ultimately follow in South Africa, Panel Technique documented a new design as PT1000. With a few minor changes to its standard design, a sample assembly was submitted for testing to the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) National Electrical Test Facility (NETFA).

Our design successfully achieved accreditation in accordance with IEC 60439-1:2004 Edition 4.1 / SANS 60439-1 Edition 3.1 Low-Voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies Part1: Type-Tested and Partially Type-Tested Assemblies.

 

 

Minimally Tested Assemblies (MTA) – Customised Motor Control and Distribution Boards

In the August 2003 Edition of the Wiring Code SANS (South African National Standards) 10142-1, the old SABS 0142-1 introduced a new standard into paragraph 6.6.5.1, described as a Specially Tested Assembly (STA) to accommodate the ‘emerging previously disadvantaged individuals’. Due to some confusion in the marketplace, this has subsequently been renamed a Minimally Tested Assembly (MTA).

With the latest edition of SANS IEC61439-1 having recently being published to replace SANS IEC60439-1, it is envisaged that SANS IEC60439-1 standard will fall away completely in the near future, and along with it, the terms MTA, PTTA and TTA, making way for the new concept of ‘Design Verification’ where an assemblies compliance will be verified based on the verified referenced design (the Tested sample).

We at Panel Technique understand the need for custom built panels in the marketplace, and as such, we are in a unique position where we are able to custom build panels to client specific requirements, however; with the experience of having our PT1000 design verified at SABS NETFA, we have better understanding of temperature rise and heat dissipation which is often overlooked when manufacturing boards to MTA specifications.
