Electrical panel manufacturing in South Africa, as a so called ‘Third World Country’, particularly the method of fabrication of the sheet steel enclosures and materials used was ‘old fashioned’ and ineffective, particularly for the coastal manufacturers like ourselves, as safeguarding against corrosion becomes an important factor in the manufacturing process.

Zinc coated mild sheet steel (Zintex) is the most common material used in KZN for the manufacture of the panels, but as far as Panel Technique was concerned, not only was this totally ineffective as a corrosion preventative, but as the Zintex was imported from Japan, it was subject to currency fluctuation and unreliable deliveries from the suppliers.

 

 

Panel Technique built a 7 tank (stage) phosphate pre-treatment plant, where after total fabrication prior to powder coating, the complete vertical section, doors, cover plates and device plates are processed through the phosphate treatment plant, making sure that all cuts, welds and grinds are treated prior to powder coating.

In our quest to improve quality, accuracy and delivery, Panel Technique were the first electrical panel manufacturer in KZN to acquire a CNC punching machine and more recently a state of the art, CNC bending brake.

Wiring integrity and electrical assembly, considered by Panel Technique as the ‘heart of the business’, which is where our Motto of ‘Right people, better products’ is particularly apt.

 

We take pride in our design layouts and the integrity of our wiring and have recognized that as an industry where our wiremen will rarely witness a functional MCC in the environment in which it is designed, they would need to be more than just being able to wire from a schematic wiring diagram and as such, we have embarked on a ‘in-house’ training program to give our wiremen an understanding of, and reasons for, what they are doing and why!

In this regard, particular attention is given to working with the correct tools and their condition.
Copper work is something Panel Technique has always specialized on with a CNC bender and complete portable setup for on-site work and specializing in the upgrading and retrofitting of larger circuit breakers and switchgear.
